Phil attained his medical degree from the University of Queensland in 1980, then spent two years as a Resident Medical Officer at the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane, before going to train for another two years as the Emergency Medicine Registrar at the hospital. In 1985 he took over the Rosalie practice of his own family doctor, Harry Muir, on whom he modelled his practice philosophy of traditional cradle to the grave general practice, treating his patients with care, respect, compassion and 24/7 availability. He obtained his Fellowship of the Royal Australia College of General Practitioners in 1990, achieving the highest marks in Australia in those examinations, tying with another Western Suburbs doctor (Dr Aldyth Love) and was jointly awarded the college’s M.O. Kent-Hughs memorial medal for that achievement. With more than 34 years experience in family general practice, he combines extensive medical skills with his keen interest in all aspects of Family Health, with a special interest in the diagnosis, management, prevention and removal of skin cancer. Dr Manfield is a specialist General Practitioner who grew up in the local area and attended Milton State Primary School. He still lives locally in Rosalie Village.
Doctors work with, not for Rosalie Milton Clinic, running their own practices from the premises of Rosalie Milton Clinic while they practice medicine with complete clinical sovereignty.

The east coast of Australia has some of our country’s highest rates of skin cancer in Australia, including Melanomas. It is important to look after your skin, and we are happy to assist this by providing skin cancer checks and treatment of all forms of skin lesions using therapies such as creams, PDT* or excisions. Our doctors have special interests in skin medicine and undertake additional training to enhance their skills in this area.
*Photodynamic Therapy (PDT) utilises photosensitising agents, oxygen and light to create a photochemical reaction that selectively destroys cancer cells. Photosensitising agents are drugs which are administered onto the skin through topical application, they concentrate in cancer cells and only become active when light of a certain wavelength is directed onto the area of the skin where the cancer is. The photodynamic reaction between the photosensitising agent, light and oxygen kills the cancer cells.
